Centro Comunitario Juan Diego
Centro Communitario Juan Diego has been making a difference in South Chicago
for 13 years. Our center was founded by eight Latina women who had the
courage to start hardships. As a grassroots community based organization we
operate many vital programs focused on health care issues, community
organizing, social services, and family education. Through our efforts we hope to
foster confident leaders for today and tomorrow.
Our Mission:
Centro Comunitario Juan Diego
promotes leadership and social
change while serving those in
need.

I would like to take a moment to recognize a special group of people.

Thanks to the staff at HOLCIM Skyway Inc for your generous time, the supplies, and the hard work that went
into remodeling our building.

My thoughts turn to this wonderful group as well as all the volunteers we’ve had and the incredible contribution that they
make to society.  I was inspired to write the following speech to all the present and past volunteers that have touched lives
in such a positive way through their work at Centro Comunitario Juan Diego.

A quote which really resonates with me is “Life is not measured by the number of breaths that we take, but by the number
of moments that take our breath away”. I have been blessed to have had and continue to have my breath taken away by
the dedication and commitment of some of our volunteers.

As I look at my life at CCJD, I see a sea of faces ingrained in my memory.  Each face tells a story; so many faces, so
many stories.  They come from many different backgrounds and life experiences, and yet, they all have at least one thing
in common, the willingness and to give their time to help others.

I am humbled by your generosity of spirit and compassion for your fellow human beings.
It is all of you who generously give your time, your warmth, your humor, and your caring. It is all of you, doing what you do
well, who take my breath away. Thank you for volunteering.
